GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: Who runs the RPM program?
A: T-Chek Systems offers the RPM™ Prepaid MasterCard® card, which is issued by MetaBank™, pursuant to license by MasterCard International Incorporated, member FDIC. For more information, go to About Us.

Q: What is a prepaid card?
A: It’s a stored value prepaid card, much like a debit card, that can be reloaded every payday by an employer through an ACH (automated clearinghouse) direct deposit. It is sometimes referred to as a payroll card. It is not a credit card; you can only spend or withdraw the amount available on the card. It also is not a bank account; it does not earn interest.

Q: Is the RPM Card FDIC insured?
A: Yes, funds loaded onto your RPM Card are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) for up to $250,000.

Q: I have a bank account, why do I want a payroll debit card?
A: Even if you have a bank account, an RPM Card may be valuable. If your pay isn’t Direct Deposited into your account, the RPM Card is more convenient and safer than being paid by paper check.

The RPM Card is great for people on the go or who perform their work in multiple locations such as customer sites, company offices, their homes, vendor offices, trucks, planes, and hotels. If your travel requires you to pay a check cashing fee the RPM Card is a less expensive choice.

If you have teenagers you help to support or if you regularly transfer money to a relative internationally, getting them a card and using it to transfer the money is far safer, more convenient, and less expensive than money transfer services.

If you share a checking account with another person and occasionally pay overdraft fees because you both used your debit cards or wrote checks, using the RPM Card instead provides the safety and record-keeping of the checking account without the risk of overdraft. The RPM Card is great for anyone who doesn’t want the “hassles/costs” of a traditional bank.

In today’s economic climate, if you are looking for ways to budget your everyday expenses, splitting your pay between the RPM Card and your bank or credit union account can be a great household budgeting tool. The RPM Card is an especially great option for those who prefer to avoid open access to a “credit” card.

Q: How does the RPM Card work?
A: The RPM Card works just like any other prepaid MasterCard card. The card is accepted at all locations worldwide where Debit MasterCard is accepted. You can use it at a point-of-sale location to make purchases and at an ATM to withdraw cash. With the added security of having your own PIN, you can be assured of no unauthorized use of your card.

Q: Who can get an RPM Card?
A: Any employee or any person, age 18 or older, that is a legal U.S. resident is eligible.* You don't need a bank account to apply and there is no credit check. Even with a bankruptcy, you can get an RPM Card. A secondary "RPM Companion Cardholder" must be 13 years of age. The primary adult card account holder is responsible for ensuring that RPM Companion Cardholders who are minors use the card appropriately. The only requirement for a prepaid MasterCard card is valid identification.*

* The U.S.A. PATRIOT Act is a federal law that requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens a card account. You will be asked to provide your name, address, date of birth and other information that will allow us to identify you. You may also be asked to provide documentation as proof of identification. "100% Approval" and "No One Is Turned Down" are contingent upon successfully passing this mandatory identification confirmation.

Q: How do I order a card?
A: Individuals can get the RPM™ Prepaid MasterCard card through our employer partners. If your employer currently does not offer the card, you may get one directly by calling us toll-free at 877-562-3729 (877-LOAD-PAY) or emailing rpmcustomerservice@columbusdata.net. If you are an employer or business owner and would like to become a partner, please contact our sales department at rpmsales@tchek.com

Q: What happens to my card if I don't use it?
A: If the card value is depleted and remains at a zero balance for 60 consecutive days, you will not be responsible for the monthly fees (should they apply) until funds are loaded onto the card again. If the card balance remains at zero for more than 90 days, the card will be cancelled.

Q: Can I get additional cards for my spouse or a relative?
A: Yes, you can. To have an additional card issued, please contact your employer and fill out an application for your spouse/relative. If you are no longer with the employer who assigned you the card, please contact Customer Service for an additional card at 877-562-3729 (877-LOAD-PAY) or rpmcustomerservice@columbusdata.net.

Q: Does my employer have access to my transaction information?
A: No. All your transactions are private. Your employer has no access to your card.

A: Yes. Simply call 877-562-3729 (877-LOAD-PAY) or email rpmcustomerservice@columbusdata.net and request an upgrade to a personally embossed card. Cost is $6.95.

Q: Should merchant transactions be processed as 'debit' or 'credit'?
A: If you want cash back from a transaction, request a debit transaction. Your PIN will be requested. If you do not want cash back, even though the card has Debit printed on it, you may process the transaction as credit.

Q: How does my card work at an ATM?
A: Your card can be used at more than 1.5 million ATMs worldwide displaying the MasterCard, Maestro, Cirrus or Pulse acceptance marks. Withdrawal limits at ATMs may vary. Note: Do not try to withdraw funds from your card until your card is activated and funds have been loaded onto it. Otherwise, you risk losing your card to the machine and incurring a reject fee.

Q: The ATM gives me choices of multiple accounts to choose from to withdraw money. Which one should I choose?
A: Choose "Current" or "Checking."

Q: Can I use the RPM Card on the internet?
A: The RPM Card may be used for online transactions wherever Debit MasterCard is an accepted form of payment. Note: Avoid using the card to register online for free trials. After the trial period, companies may start charging your card and you will be responsible for the charges.

Q: How do I use my card to buy gasoline?
A: You should pay inside when you purchase gasoline. If you try to pay at the pump and are declined, you should try again inside the store as many gasoline pumps are programmed to request a pre-authorization amount that may be larger than the balance you have on your card.

Q: How do I use the card at restaurants that have a 'tip' line in the receipt?
A: Most restaurants have their POS terminals preprogrammed to add 15%-20% gratuity to your bill total at the time of card authorization. For your card to be accepted, the total of your bill plus the automatically added gratuity must not exceed the available balance on your card. For example, if you have $25 remaining on your prepaid card, and the restaurant bill is $24, your card may be declined for that purchase because the restaurant may try to authorize $28.75 ($25 + 15%), and not a $24 purchase. This issue applies to any merchant with a tip line on the receipt.

Q: How do I use my card at hotels and car rental agencies?
A: Hotels and car rental agencies may check to see whether your card has sufficient value to cover incidental charges (gas, car damage, extra days), up to 15% of the total bill. If your card has insufficient funds, pay the difference using an alternative payment method first, and then pay the remaining balance with your card.

Q: What is a pre-authorization hold?
A: A merchant may place a pre-authorization hold on a certain amount of funds on your card to verify that you have sufficient funds to pay for the transaction. When your final bill is less than the pre-authorized amount, the remaining funds may be held before being released to your available balance. For example: A restaurant may pre-authorize a set amount when you open a tab. A car rental company or hotel may hold the amount equal to one day's rental or stay. In the U.S., gas stations generally place pre-authorization holds for approximately $50 when you pay at the pump. If you pay for the gas inside, and specify the exact amount you intend to purchase, only the actual purchase amount will be deducted from your card balance.

Q: How do I pay bills with my RPM Card?
A: There are multiple ways you can pay bills with your RPM Card—eliminating the hassle of getting a cashier’s check or money order. Always be sure your prepaid account is funded in advance of the payment being sent.

  1. On the MasterCard web site, you can search for companies that accept Debit MasterCard payments for services and utilities. You can also create and save a custom list of your billers, set-up automated email reminders of approaching payment dates, and access your billers’ web sites.
  2. Use your RPM Card to process a direct debit via ACH. These are debit transactions initiated by a biller/merchant for an amount authorized by you, the cardholder. You can use your RPM account and routing numbers to pay your bills as long as the billers or merchants can do ACH debits. You must have the full amount available in your card account prior to paying each bill. Otherwise, the transaction(s) will be rejected and we may charge you a fee for processing the rejections. Your billers/merchants may also charge you late fees. You should use caution when giving out your account and routing numbers. We do not recommend giving your numbers to anyone other than your employer or benefits provider for direct deposit or your billers/merchants for payments. If you do give out your account and routing numbers for ACH debits you will be responsible for any transactions submitted by that biller/merchant until the time you revoke your authorization with the biller/merchant.
  3. Coming Soon: RPM’s Online Bill Payment Service, which will allow you to send money from your prepaid account electronically or by paper check to any company, institution or person within the United States, U.S. territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands) and U.S. military bases.

Q: What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?
A: Contact us immediately to report a lost or stolen card. Contact us at 877-562-3729 (877-LOAD-PAY) 24 hours a day or email us at rpmcustomerservice@columbusdata.net. A new card will be shipped to you, even while you are traveling. As long as your PIN has not been compromised, your funds are secure.

Q: Is there a limit on how much cash I can withdraw from an ATM?
A: The RPM™ Prepaid MasterCard® card has a $900 daily limit on the amount of cash that may be withdrawn. However, ATM owners often limit the amount of cash dispensed per transaction. Multiple back-to-back withdrawals may be needed to take the full amount of cash. Bank-owned ATMs generally allow higher withdrawal amounts on a single transaction.

Q: How do I use up a balance too small to withdraw at an ATM?
A: Ask a merchant or cashier at a store to charge the exact remaining balance to your card, and then pay any remaining purchase balance with another form of payment.

Q: How else can I use the RPM Card?
A:

  • If you have teens, college or pre-college students, getting them an RPM Prepaid MasterCard card is an inexpensive, safe and convenient way to send or share money with them.
  • If you regularly send money internationally to a relative, an RPM Card is safer, more convenient and less expensive than money transfer services.
  • If you share a checking or savings account with another person and sometimes pay overdraft fees because you both used your debit card or wrote a check, the RPM Prepaid MasterCard card will eliminate the risk of overdrafts and associated fees while giving you a record of your spending history.
  • The RPM Card is a great tool for money management. Unlike credit cards, the RPM Card is prepaid, so you can only spend the amount on the card.

ACTIVATING CARD AND MANAGING CARD ACCOUNT

Q: How do I activate my card?
A: If you received an RPM Card and PIN from your employer, they activated the card for you. If the card is mailed to you, you must self-activate the card online or via the toll-free number.

Q: Can I get a record of my transactions?
A: Yes. You may get an online monthly statement at www.rpmcash.com. The statement shows all payments and spending. Card registration is required before you can access this information. You may also request a printed monthly statement. There is a $5.00 fee for each printed statement.

Q: How do I check my balance?
A: There are four ways to check the balance of funds on your card: 1) Go to www.rpmcash.com and log in to your card account. 2) Call toll-free at 1-866-217-5427. 3) Check at any ATM. (Note: ATM fees apply to ATM balance inquiries.) 4) You can register any cell phone or email address to interact with your RPM Card in real time. Once you register, you will receive SMS text messages regarding your RPM Card’s balance, as well as deposit and purchase notifications.

Q: Why isn't my balance what I think it should be?
A: At times your card balance may not match the purchases shown on your card account for any of these reasons: 1) Same-day transactions do not appear on your card account, but the amount is deducted from the available balance. The transactions will generally appear on your card account the following day. 2) There may be an outstanding authorization for a purchase that was made, but the merchant has not collected its money yet. This type of transaction will only show on your card account after the merchant has collected its money. In the meantime, the money is held from your card account, ready to be paid to the merchant. For example, this may happen for internet or mail/phone order purchases. The merchant may settle the money when they ship the order, rather than on the day the order was placed. In this case, the funds are marked for the merchant and deducted from the balance, but will only show on the card account when the bank actually pays the merchant for your purchase. This process could take a minimum of eight days to clear.

Q: What is a PIN?
A: A PIN is the Personal Identification Number you use at ATMs or at the point of sale. The card and PIN come in a sealed package. You should keep your PIN secured. You should not store your PIN with your card or share this number with anyone.

Q: What do I do if I forget my PIN?
A: If you forget your PIN, please contact Customer Service Immediately at 877-562-3729 (877-LOAD-PAY) 24 hours a day or email us at rpmcustomerservice@columbusdata.net.

Q: What if I’m having trouble logging into my card account online?
A: The log-in process is case sensitive, so make sure to type in both your user name and password using the same upper or lowercase letters as you first defined them. If you forgot your password, or it still isn't working, contact Customer Service at 877-562-3729 (877-LOAD-PAY) or email rpmcustomerservice@columbusdata.net.
